Food Pantry Service

Dear sweet Barb arranged for the Baha'is to go serve at the food pantry in celebration of the 9th day of Ridvan. We were a little worried that the kids would get in the way, but they really pulled their weight! It turned out to be a blast!

A large pallet would be rolled out that was stacked high with boxes of random food and we had to sort it into dry food and canned goods. Out of that we had to pull macaroni, ramen, and peanut butter. Perfect! My kids know each of those items and so that became their job. They actually pulled their own weight! The adults were swirling around tossing foods into the right bins and slicing boxes open to flatten. Once in a while someone would toss something in the wrong bin and one of the kids would get to get in and fish it out! SO funny!

Anyway, we had a blast and we were happy to find something that the kids can do to serve! We've been visiting the old folks home pretty regularly, but the boys have begun to get a little too comfortable there. They feel okay about wreaking a little havoc now and then, so it's nice to throw a little something new out there and keep 'em on their toes!

Hopefully we'll get a chance to do it again soon. The lady said that there is no shortage of volunteers, which was a bummer, so who knows when we'll get the chance. But it's a way fun way to serve the community and a great way to spend time as a group!
