Porcelain Art

Our history studies have taken us to early trade with China during the Renaissance period.  Because we like to make our art coincide with out history at least one lesson per week, we designed our own Chinese porcelain.  The Chinese were the only people making the signature blue and white porcelain and it was considered quite the luxury.

The kids looked through google images at pictures of the porcelain, noting the common motifs.  Then they sketched an outline of a piece of pottery to fill in.  After several tries, I finally drew the outline for the boys.  Not because their pictures weren't fantastic, but because they were repeatedly too small to fill in with a blue and white motif.  Finally, they spent time with their blue markers filling in their vases.  They got really cute results!!!
